ROCK and METAL :)

"Rock", "metal" means something else for different people. For me this is a great music which is expressed by the sounds of guitars and drums.
    Unfortunately most of today's teenagers think that "Jonas Brothers" or "Feel" are rock bands. That isn't true. Groups like this perform POPROCK. In this style the sound is often enhanced by the computer programs.
    Real rock and metal bands like Metallica, SOAD, AC/DC , Korn would never do that because they are authentic. In this bands musicians who play the instruments know how to charm the fans, lyrics of theirs songs provoke reflection and have deeper meaning. Singers sing them very well.

A good example of present metal music is one of the most popular bands: Korn. This band was formed in 1993. The singer Jonathan Davis is also a songwriter. The musician describes the experience of childhood, drug abuse, emotional problems or death. I like words spoken by him: "You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same."

What about clothes ?
Typical clothes in this style are:
-leather jacket
-leggings
-T-shirts with the names of bands
-tube pants
Accessories:
-bandanas
-sneakers
-heavy boots
-lace, brads, high heels
All must be in black/grey colours!

Most people who listen to this music have their own style. Sometimes someone who wears like that listens to POP or someone who wears suit listens to rock or metal. So let's not use stereotypes to judge people !

Beginnings of hip-hop in Poland

Hip hop music is a musical genre that developed as part of hip hop culture and is defined by four key stylistic elements: rapping, DJing/scratching, sampling (or synthesis), and beat boxing. Hip hop is also graffiti and break dance. Hip hop began in the South Bronx of New York City in the 1970s. The term rap is often used synonymously with hip hop, but hip hop is also the name of an entire subculture.
In Poland hip hop appeared in the early 90s of twentieth century with the record “Skate” by the SALEM band and with forming the squad BAD MASTER C. People think that it was Kazik’s “Spalam się” which began this culture in Poland. In fact the first hip hop record on polish music scene was record by Wzgórze YA-PA 3. In the same year  “Albóóm” by Liroy from Kielce was released, who is considered an author of polish version of gangsta rap. Big western companies in Poland didn’t want to invest in rappers. Soon after Liroy and Wzgórze  YA-PA 3, Kaliber 44 from Katowice recorded their album. On the Warsaw stage appeared such bands as: Molesta, Warszafski Deszcz, ZIP Skład and very active DJ 600 V. In Poznań and in the whole Poland Slums Attack and his leader Peja gained popularity. His album was a big success. Tracks from it were one of the biggest hits of 2001 and 2002.
A film “Blokersi” by Sylwester Latkowski made hip hop ever more famous. It showed false picture of polish rap. Author presented rapper as a life loser and street person, so some people thought that this was true. But in polish realities it wasn’t really true.
In 2001-2004 rappers were fighting:
-Tede and Eldo and their groups – Gib Gibon Skład and Obrońcy Tytułu
-rappers from Poznań – Peja and Gural
-Mes from Warsaw and Mezo from Poznań – the reason was nicknames.
In 2004-2005 hip hop appeared in media.
Hip hop quickly became important form of expression for lots of young Poles. There are many types of hip hop. For example gangsta rap – lyrics of songs say generally about gangs and shooting and a call for hating police. Another type is alternative hip hop. It is characterized by a non-standard, experimental sound which is a mixture of hip hop and other musical genres.

Polish hip hop

At present the most popular hip hop rappers and bands in Poland are: DonGuralEsko, Grubson, Abradab, Pezet, Liber, Eldo, Peja, Tede, O.S.T.R., Rahim, Fokus, Trzeci Wymiar, Molesta Ewenement, KASTA, Firma. Lots of people who listen to hip hop know Paktofonika. This band split up seven years ago, because one of the group members (Magik) committed suicide. Their most popular songs are “Jestem bogiem” and “Chwile ulotne”.

My favourite polish rapper is Eldo. I like him because he sings about real life. He is a patriot, he recorded a song about Poland - “Nie pytaj o nią”. He wrote lyrics of two songs for Monika Brodka. He recorded six solo records. In June this year his new record “Zapiski z 1001 nocy” appeared. I think that the best track from this album is “Na maksa”. But my favourite and first song by Eldo which I heard is “Granice”. Eldo was a leader of Grammatik. This band was great. I like their songs very much and my favourite is “Nie ma skróconych dróg”.

DonGuralEsko has been present on the polish hip hop scene since 1995 and is a member of such bands as Killaz Group, Super Grupa, KASTA, PDG Kartel and GTW. In his texts he refers to local patriotism and demonstrates attachment to his hometown – Poznań. I don’t like the band called Firma. In their songs there are lots of curses. Lots of people think that all hip hop songs say about alcohol, drugs and hating police. But often hip hop songs provoke to reflection and changing your life. Sometimes polish hip hop tells about our national flaws and shows polish reality. We can find it for example in songs: “El Polako” – DonGuralEsko, “Co z tą Polską” – L.U.C, “To my Polacy” – 52 Dębiec.

Istnieje jednak kilka zwrotów, które można określić mianem ''old school'u slangu hip-hop'owego:

Samochody:
* Raperzy z Tribe Called Quest w "Low end theoty" zamiast BMW mówią "beamer",
* Często można też usłyszeć skrót "GT", oznaczający Ferrari GT - jeden z rzadziej spotykanych, a przez to droższych modeli Ferrari,
* "Benz" - wiadomo - Mercedes Benz,
* "Sagging deuce" - nisko podwieszany Cadillac,
* "Swerver" - po prostu samochód.

Liczby:
* "24/7" lub"24/7/365". Chodzi oczywiście o 24 godziny na dobę, 7 dni w tygodniu,365 dni w roku
* "911" to nasze 997,
* Dr. Dre na The Chronic wymienia liczbę"187". Jest to kod używany przez policjantów w Kalifornii oznaczający"zabójstwo" (w slangu policja często określana jest jako"po-po"),
* na "Survival of the fittest" grupy Mobb Deep słyszymy: "Hit with a 2 to 4 is difficult" - "2 to 4" oznacza karę więzienia 2 do 4 lat,
* "213" to kod pocztowy LongBeach, ale również nazwa grupy Snoop'a, Nate Dogg'a i Warren'a G z początków ich kariery hip-hop'owej,
* "211" - kod policyjny oznaczający rabunek z użyciem broni,
* "502" - kod policyjny w Kalifornii, oznaczający jazdę po pijanemu
* "5 to 9" - praca od 9:00 do 17:00.

Broń palna:
* "Chrome" - broń palna,
* "357 break it on down" LLCool J'a w "Break it on down" - pistolet Magnum 357,
* "Buyaka" oznacza odgłos przypominający wystrzał broni palnej.

* "Bust this" - zwróć uwagę,
* "Dead presidents" Nas'a z"The world is yours" to pieniądze (banknoty z wizerunkami byłychprezydentów USA),
* "Def" oznacza"okay" (But you still think our music is def, right?

* "Grip" - umiejętności MC przy mikrofonie, lub też pieniądze - zależy od kontekstu zdania,
* "Hold the fort down" oznacza: "reprezentować skąd się pochodzi",
* "Hook" to znany motyw w utworze, zaczerpnięty zazwyczaj z innego kawałka, który przykuwa uwagę słuchacza,
* "Hype" to "cool",
* "Peep this" - sprawdź to,
* "Throw-up" - proste graffiti,zazwyczaj zawierające tylko dwa kolory,
* "Word is bond" - to co mówisz jest prawdziwe i nie musisz stawiać pieniędzy w zakładzie, aby to udowodnić -wystarczy twoje słowo. "Cause I'm frontin' in my ride, and my word is bond" - LL Cool J (The boomin' system),
* "Bite" - kopiowanie czyjegoś tekstu - "I know you down south are biting my lines, and if I catch you boy, your ass is mine" - Schoolly D,
* "CPT" - skrót miasta Compton(południowa część aglomeracji Los Angeles) z książki telefonicznej (fani Dr.Dre dobrze o tym wiedzą),
* "Wigga" - biały koleś, który próbuje zachowywać się jak "czarni".

Depeche Mode in Poland!

On Wednesday (10.02.10r.) and Thursday (11.02.10r.) at 21.05 p.m. there was a feast for Polish Depeche Mode fans. Their concerts were awesome! In Łódź on Atlas arena Martin Gore, Dave Gahan and Andrew Fletcher appeared on a stage. Concert began with the songs from their new album. The band started WITH "In chains", "Wrong", "Hole to heed". That was the second attempt to perform in Poland during the tour which promotes their last album "Sounds of Universe". The May concert in Warsaw was cancelled so as other concerts in other countries. because Gahan had a cancer. Both the band and the fans
(13,500!!!) were in great shape and this blend created one of the best concerts during the tour ;). The fans prepared a few surprises for the band, which was widely reported by foreign press. The band appreciated the effort of the fans. After seeing and hearing what happened in the hall they were astonished. As one person wrote on the largest global forum for DM fans, the Poles showed that next live DVD should be filmed here. Martin Gore said that Poles were the best audience on "The tour of Universe".

Depeche Mode - British band with performs electronic pop. The band was created in 1980 in Basildon, UK. The name of the group was inspired by French fashion magazine, suggested by Dave Gahan.
